About us

The North Wind is an independent student publication serving the Northern Michigan University community. It is partially funded by the Student Activity Fee. The North Wind digital paper is published daily during the fall and winter semesters except on university holidays and during exam weeks. The North Wind Board of Directors is composed of representatives of the student body, faculty, administration and area media.

Former ASNMU President Pleads Guilty

Former ASNMU president Amber Lopota, 34, pled guilty on Friday in Marquette County Circuit Court for embezzling money from ASNMU for an amount of at least one thousand dollars.

Lopota was ordered to repay $1,739.94 in restitution to the Associated Students of Northern Michigan University government body according to the Marquette County Circuit Court office. Lopota will received credit for already serving seven days in jail as well as with a remaining twenty three days of suspended jail time. She has been sentenced to eighteen months probation.
